"Kill him, kill him!": a young man chased by a dozen individuals then stabbed to death in a district of Rennes; he was known for narcotics

A 21-year-old man was killed early Friday morning, August 15, in the Maurepas district of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), the victim of several stab wounds. The attack occurred near the Gros-Chêne shopping center, a location known to house a drug sales point. The investigation, entrusted to the Rennes Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS), is exploring the possibility of a settling of scores linked to drug trafficking. (…)
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Jean-Marie Blin, "the victim had stab wounds, particularly to his legs and chest." Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, the man, who was in cardio-respiratory arrest, could not be resuscitated.
“This is a 21-year-old man who lived in the Rennes area. He had already been implicated in cases related to drug offenses and sentenced in 2022 to a six-month prison sentence, suspended with probation, for possession, sale and use of narcotics,” Mr. Blin said. (…)
Moments before the discovery, police received a call reporting that a man was being chased by about ten individuals. “A neighbor reportedly heard someone yelling, ‘kill him, kill him,’” the deputy prosecutor reported. No arrests had been made as of Friday evening.
As a reminder, the Maurepas district – and in particular the Gros-Chêne sector – has been the scene of numerous incidents of violence such as shootings and gunfire since August 2024.
